On the cusp of falling in love….

It was a beautiful day in early August and Maya had been looking forward to her date with this guy for a while now. She had just gone through a heart-breaking time in her life recently and had been looking for a distraction to get herself back in the dating game for a while now. She was nervous when she first showed up at a little cafe which served gelato and bubble tea. She was there about fifteen minutes before the decided time and ended up selecting a spot near the glass windows so she can see him arrive. She sat down and was waiting anxiously for him to arrive.

She wasn’t sure why she was nervous or anxious to meet up with him. She had been talking to him for a few weeks and she had enjoyed her conversations as he seemed very genuine plus wanted to get to know her like goals, passions and career which is something that not many guys had done earlier. Also it helped he didn’t look half bad as he was the quintessential version of a protagonist (tall, dark haired which seemed smoother in comparison to hers, symmetrical face, strong physique and handsome) based on his pictures on online profile which reminded her of the multiple protagonists from harlequin novels she had shamelessly read in her teenage as well as adult years.

She herself looked above average as she had shoulder length hair which she had straigthened, light makeup which consisted of black eye liner with mascara with her glossiest lip balm and wore a cute black & white tunic with black leggings finished with black flats. She never thought about herself as being a looker but she looked like she put in some effort today. She was still in her thoughts when she realized that it was 20 mins past the time they were supposed to meet and he still wasn’t there. She had been waiting to meet this guy out of all the matches she had gotten and he was apparently starting to feel like a big mistake. She hadn’t said yes to anyone since her last relationship had ended and while online dating was the only way to meet eligible men these days she wasn’t just meeting up with any tom, dick or harry. She was trying to meet up with men who had more substance and seemed to be emotionally stable as that was something that was missing in the men she had dated within recent times.

Time was ticking by and he still hadn’t showed up plus it was an hour and fifteen minutes past the time they were supposed to meet. She couldn’t believe she had that patience because this was just highly inappropriate or just pure rude. She was afraid that she was getting stood up and that would really hurt her self-esteem as first it had never happened to her and second of all she didn’t deserve this treatment. But she couldn’t get herself to leave that place. He texted after an hour and twenty minutes had passed saying he got hung up with a personal thing plus wasn’t able to look at his cell phone. It was amusing to her that in this day and age a person could not sent her a text and respect others’ time plus this was a bloody date. Since he sounded very apologetic so she decided to wait for him.

It was an hour and forty minutes but this time he was getting lost and was texting intermittently so she wasn’t fretting too much about being stood up. She was losing her patience and when she was about to get up and leave but lo behold he shows up. As soon as she saw him she knew she was going to be in trouble as he looked every bit handsome and even better than his pictures. But there was still that nagging, gut feeling that Maya was ignoring but she wanted to be cavalier and live a little for a change.

The reality is we all have a very strong sense of gut feeling that overtime becomes even stronger as we get older. But we still tend to ignore it because of that transitory moment of happiness it brings in our dull, mundane lives sometimes. I’m here to tell you that its completely okay to ignore your gut feeling sometimes and experience things that could potentially end up shaking up your world. We need experiences like that to show us exactly what we need or do not need in our lives ahead. Its usually you would learn from it or there would be a reason you needed to experience that exact thing at that time in your life. You can’t live a life where everything you do needs to be right and sometimes relinquishing control that way can bring wonderful experiences or lessons in your life that you needed to know.

The story still continues as Maya’s world is shaken up by this tardy handsome man she just met and keep following this space in order to know what happens in her life after she meets this guy…
